Acrylics – Day One, Cat in Blue Hat

Day four of the 30 Day Challenge! So many dogs! I do love dogs. I prefer dogs. But Ann Pierson D’Angelo made an offhand comment to me, and that was, “where are the cats?” So AnnD! Here is a cat!

Acrylic 1, Cat in Blue Hat
4″ x 4″

I stopped in Dick Blick’s after work yesterday despite the -10 wind chill wind. HOLY COW. And I purchased some things in which to start working in acrylics. I have used them in the past, but only in the blockiest, clumsiest way. So I was worried! And this tiny thing took most of the day. (So, no new picture of the dog and no Copics tips yet. But maybe tomorrow!)

I am relieved to tell you that these past couple years working with ink and Copics was a great help in starting acrylics. I guess I mean I don’t feel like I started from square one. (Maybe square two). It’s easy to see how you can work on one painting indefinitely!

Here’s a 2.5″ x 3.5″ inked elf maiden. I’ll probably try to include inks in my posts, too. She’ll probably be done tomorrow.

Thanks for dropping in! Lots of progress photos, um, not the greatest. Will work on it! :)

Cindy that cat has the cutest blue eyes and all those tiny brush strokes- I can see why it would take so long! Love it’s fur shimmering white and that cute hat. This is a winter and you are a trooper for being out in -10. -6 here this AM.

Loved your progress photos (as always!) – acrylic paint will always take longer than Copics since you have to dip your paint brush all the time – much easier to blend with the markers too.
    Your work is great!!

Very cool……is that a black canvas?? This is quite an interesting style change…….with the different medium, colored canvas, and different brushstrokes, and small image size……admire you for being bold and trying new things! Stay warm!

Yes, started with a little black canvas. (Which I may prefer to the white, at least at the moment!)

You rocked your first attempt with acrylics. I haven’t used acrylics since high school. I’m told the medium has improved a lot since then….
